Today, the 17th of September, 2021, YSD has clocked 10 years since  it’s establishment. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we reflect on a number of achievements the organisation has made  and success stories from the beneficiaries of our projects. Today we reflect on how the the organisation has transformed the lives of vulnerable smallholder  (climate resilience).

Small scale irrigation systems

In order to  complement the production from rainfed crops, the organisation has supported farmers in different communities to start irrigation farming using local irrigation structures. Looking into future, the organisation has plans to extend this in future using renewable energy powered pumps such sub-immersible solar pumps to supply water.

Ecological/ sustainable agriculture interventions

The organizations has provided a series of workshops regarding ecological farming techniques and supported different interventions in order to strengthen the capacity of vulnerable smallholder farmers

Goat pass on programme

The communities have benefited from the livestock scheme and a pass on arrangement, where house from five communities in Dowa, Lilongwe and Mchinji have benefited from the intervention.

Economic empowerment for smallholder farmers

Climate crisis has impacted on food production which is the main source of food and income for  smallholder farmers, the is a need to integrate non-agricultural activities to strengthen the capacity of smallholder farmers to the impacts of climate change. YSD has over the past years organized farmers into coorperatives, and village and loan serving groups which will helped farmers to generate additional income.
